Should I get a downpipe?

Original Poster

I have a Volkswagen 1.4 TSI 150 hp 2016 model, I have Stage 1 and I'm thinking about getting a downpipe done, but people say the low-end torque will die, that it'll be a waste of money to do it. I'm really confused, what do you think I should do? After installing the downpipe I want to have a small scratch put on the last muffler to get a sound that satisfies me, but on the other hand will the low end really die? What should I do, does having Stage 1 already installed save the low end at all?

Hi, my 1.4 TSI 140 hp car has a downpipe, hybrid turbo and a K&N cold air intake box filter. After the downpipe the original mufflers stay in place, the sound is only a sweet growl on cold start and at high revs. If you get a downpipe done and update the tune you'll get extra power, but the sound might not satisfy you. Once it's decatted, assuming the tuner knows what they're doing, it can give torque from around 2000 rpm, but the low end might not be as lively as stock.

If you're planning to drive the car hard, go for it — it'll accelerate more comfortably at the top end. Other than that, it might feel a bit more sluggish in the city, it'll want revs to produce its maximum torque.
