What are the pros and cons of a tune for the car?

Original Poster

It's said that tuned cars gain extra horsepower and torque and use less fuel; I'd appreciate it if owners of tuned cars wrote about their experiences, the disadvantages and the advantages

A soft, custom-written tune doesn't cause any harm. It might burn more fuel under heavy use, but under normal use fuel consumption can even go down.

I'm thinking about it for my Audi A4 B6 3.0 Quattro ASN, naturally aspirated gasoline, I'm considering a Stage 1 tune, I'm undecided.

I got a Stage 1 tune done on my Megane 2 1.5 dCi 100hp, it became 125hp, the car came alive and got quicker. My average fuel consumption became 4.8 when driving performance-oriented in the city, while it was 4.5 with calm driving before the tune. The place you get the tune from needs to be good so you don't end up with a headache later - I've done 15,000 km without issues.

When you get it done at a proper company, especially one that has worked extensively on your specific car (tuning generally requires R&D specific to the vehicle) and you use it responsibly, you won't have any problems, and fuel consumption does drop - that's true. When it leaves the factory, the stock engine software is written to lower emissions, that's why when you get an aftermarket tune, fuel consumption drops too. We have a car we've been running tuned for around 100k [km] now and haven't had any issues so far.

I guess finding a good tuner is going to be hard. Thanks for the info - my cousin who did Stage 3 blew the engine on his 1.5 Clio, that's why I don't want to get it done in Edirne.

Hello everyone, first of all - I'm the MGReMaps dealer for the European side of Istanbul. You can always reach out for detailed information about engine and transmission ECU work, and get answers to any question marks you have in mind. I'd be happy to help.

My Opel Astra J 1.4 Turbo got a tune from Revolution Performance, done with a file prepared specifically for the car, and I've been running it for about 90,000 km now. The only downside is that I change the spark plugs every 15,000 km instead of the 30,000 km the service normally recommends. Other than that, it got a fantastic power boost - based on the rolling starts we did, we think it's around 180 hp 😂
