About Start-Stop
Translated from Turkish
I'd like to make three quick points about this Start-Stop system too.
You tell the guy “derivative, integral.” The guy says, “Does the baker ask about derivatives and integrals when you go buy bread from the corner store?”
So basically, is the whole thing as simple as “the car stopped, you hit the gas, it started, and we saved fuel”?
Start-Stop has wrecked more starter motors than you can count. How many times has the A/C compressor kicked in and out, well everyone already knows that stuff.
I drive a turbo car. It hasn't even been a minute since I started the car, and it stops at the first traffic light. I swear I want to curse out the car's ECU brain! Let the engine temperature reach 90° first. Only after that should this system activate. Then, “why did the EGR get sooted up!” The car never even warmed up!
Of course, what I'm saying here is also something measurable with a sensor. And also, when the car is hot, say you've been driving long distance in a turbo car and you've floored it, and you rush into the gas station running for a 🚾 break. The car stops before you've even pulled the key out. Look, there's a thing called turbo lubrication. Let the car's turbo come to a stop first. Let its need for lubrication end. Do you stop the engine while the turbo turbine is still spinning like crazy?
Start-Stop's third and least favorite feature of mine: Start-Stop is active. You pull up to the curb, a passenger is about to get in. They don't know the car “died” in start-stop, the car looks like it has stopped. They open the door… If the car is running while the door is open, it should give the driver a warning at the level of active collision prevention. If a pregnant woman gets in and the driver doesn't notice the door is open, waits a long time, forgets… Disaster. I still haven't seen this level of active warning in any car, when there's already a tiny door-open warning light in the system anyway. If the door-open state also becomes active while start-stop is active, the software should just check an AND condition…
I won't say anything to whoever invented this, but they shouldn't set these parameters up this way.

It's a completely pointless and unnecessary system, good thing my car doesn't have it. If I buy a car that has it, the first thing I'll do is get it disabled
