It's placed at the end of the sliding part like you said, which does create a bit of a dead zone, but since the sliding part is already very wide it didn't create any usability issue for me. As for the connection, it has a USB-C port on the back that comes out of the box, and we connect it right to the charging port there. We connect the commander to the port at the passenger footwell on the right side of the car, and the devices connect to each other via Bluetooth. There's no visible cabling at all, it's not a risky setup
