My friend has one, a 2012 model Cosmo package. I really liked its comfort and equipment, especially the AFL headlight tech is really nice, but even in the top trim, the lack of some features that should be there, like a rear armrest, counts as a bit of a downside for me. If you find an example whose engine has been properly maintained, I can recommend getting it. But I can tell you it won't meet your expectations if you're after performance. That's about the extent of my experience with the Astra - if you get one, enjoy it on good days.

I tried the most basic trim. It never lets you down, a nice car. Only issue is there's little steering lock - the turning radius is quite large. That was the only thing that annoyed me. One day it made my nose bleed in a really tight multi-story car park. But you don't run into that tight a space very often.

My dad bought it in 2014, sedan, with AFL headlights, Cosmo package - I can say it has equipment and driving pleasure above the C-segment. High torque, but the body left over from GM is heavy, though it doesn't give you traction problems in daily use. Its cornering character still sticks in my mind - you can easily control the rear with the brakes. In terms of grip I'd say the sedan model is superior. If you stay in Eco mode too much, the EGR clogs up easily. We put 200k km on it, changed the fuel pump, a couple of rear brake lights, and the sway bar links.
