Ever since we bought the car we'd been driving it while keeping an eye on the coolant level. Once it became obviously low, diagnostics showed it was a thermostat failure. We replaced it with a German-made GK brand thermostat and fresh antifreeze. It's the kind of thing that can happen around 130,000 km. One more entry added to the maintenance log.
